Waste not want not with Third Drawer Down’s tube wringer.

Wastage is a hot topic right now. Programs like the ABC’s War on Waste have drawn attention to the 30 million bendy bananas that are thrown away each year because they don’t fit Coles and Woollies specifications. Many of us saw, and were revolted by, the image of Henderson Island covered with 38 million pieces of plastic.

On the flipside, there are the startups and entrepreneurs who are seeing wasted and under-utilised resources and creating exciting businesses.

How the ‘convenience customer’ is propelling online retail

I want to spend minimal time shopping so I can do more important things. You?
I want to spend minimal time shopping so I can get other stuff done. And you?

I was having dinner with a close lawyer friend recently who told me that she was surprised when I started The Third Row because she never saw me as someone who cared much about shopping.

She was absolutely right. I do not love shopping.

But I do love design.

I do love supporting independent businesses and buying from people with a story.

I do love shopping from stores mentioned by my favourite bloggers, Instagrammers and magazines because I trust their recommendations.

I really don’t want to spend my time trying to remember and search independent stores separately to find products whenever I need to buy something.

I don’t want to spend hours trawling through a large amount of average product and photography on Etsy to find the good stuff.

I have 3 kids, a husband, friends and a business, and I want to spend my time focusing on them, not shopping.

A collection of goods from The Third Row inspired by Superb Parrot by Marine Coutroutsios

I have a weakness for papercut artwork and bold colour, so I was absolutely floored when I stumbled across this work by Marine Coutroutsios on Art Pharmacy.  There’s something about the interpretation of a bird as a roundel which is so magnetic  – perhaps it’s the resemblance to a target.
